I'm from Chicago originally, and had actually never been to California until I arrived at Pomona for orientation. I graduated in 2012 with a double major in English and Sociology, and immediately moved to Phoenix to serve as a Teach for America corps member. I stayed in Phoenix for three years, teaching English at a small all-girls charter school, developing curriculum, and receiving my MA in secondary education at Arizona State University. California called me back, though, and I am currently teaching English at Windward School. I am passionate about education and would love to share what I've learned about this varied and sometimes confusing field. My advice to you, current sagehens: take advantage of everything Pomona has to offer (well, as much as you can while still managing to sleep)! You may never again be in such a stimulating, supportive environment, so soak up every minute with friends, classmates, professors, and other community members.
